Alas, your contribution is not tax-deductible. So there's no end of fiscal year benefit to contributing to Sweat Temples. But if you believe in karma, or at least the potency of a good gift, then the heat gods may well be on your side.

The time spent to research these places, write the episode, record it, and spend time in post-production costs about $7,500 for each segment. That is on the low end. I produce each episode in the margins of paid work so episodes are released on a time scale controlled by those openings. I believe in this listener base - you, dear one - because the reviews spell out interest not just in the spots themselves but this kind of creative, intimate, reporting. Hang in there for the rest of Season 1. There's exciting new twists coming!
Were this the late 1800s when the badens of Europe were in full swing and entire cities were taking to the waters - especially the artists who were invited to stay at no charge - I might have an anonymous patron to plink a few gold doubloons in my palm and kiss me on the cheek, whispering godspeed.
Right now, the history of bathhouses in the US is undocumented. Were they all sketchy? Is it true some of them had trapezes swinging high above the pools? Why were people hooking up inside of these places? As a new wave of next generation bathhouses begins to open up all over the country promising an analog experience by unplugging ourselves from all the beeps and bleeps and push notifications that are pushing us into high levels of stress we have a hand in shaping that new culture. How rare it is to have this in a sea of technology updates. To reinvent a past time for the future. I am here to tie all these parts together in a celebration of water + heat + people rituals the world over.
